Titania is the Queen of the Fairies in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Aside from that fact that it is one of the most famous plays ever written, it is also a very popular story ballet, the most famous being George Balanchine’s full length version. It is truly an enjoyable evening of beautiful choreography, sets, and costumes, mixed in with humor and romance.
Titania is most often danced by a taller dancer, at least in the Balanchine version. Being 5’4″, I would probably never have been cast, but this is a look I came up with that could easily work for anyone performing the role. Because she is a fairy, I went with mostly pastels with a focus on teal. I wanted to give the look a human quality while still keeping it mystical.
